Yes, I do think my magazine attracts an
audience due to some of the aspects and conventions I included that are used
within other professional magazines. I tried to add as many unique selling
points as possible to make us stand out from the others but I needed to have
some conventions from other magazines to balance it out. For my front cover I
had my model pointing towards the headline, which is something that you don’t
really see. Due to seeing the artists pointing towards something the viewer
would like to see what he’s pointing at and it also gives the impression that
the headline is going to be based on him.
Furthermore the colour scheme used also grabs the viewers attention as
the sell lines are written in black and gold which contrasts really well with
the white background, to make my headline stand out I used the colour red which
is looks really bright compared to the colours used. Finally I merged my logo
with my masthead, which is also a unique selling point, this will catch the
users attention, as there’s something on top of the ‘o’ in the masthead. Before
I created my front cover I did a questionnaire and 17 out of 20 said that most
magazines today form the same genre look similar in design. As a result I came
up with a design that is different compared to other reggaeton/bachata
magazines.
I also think my contents page also has a
unique selling point. You can see that on the right I have 2 images with a nice
border that is something that you don’t really see in other magazines.
Continuing of from the border I have some music notes clashing with the column
separators. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any bachata/reggaeton contents pages
so I used an example of an R&B Vibe contents page instead. Most of them all
look in design, thy have one main image as the background and the contents on
top. As you can see my magazine looks really different to this. I separated all
the sections for example the features and regulars, this way the audience will
be able to quickly find what they want to read due to it being easy to navigate
through. I asked my peer what he thought
about my page and how it attracted their attention. He said that title ‘Contents
Page’ looked really good due to the font and how it merged with the column
separators.
Due to being able to find any bachata or reggaeton double
page spreads online I used a vibe magazine as reference instead. As you can see
my magazine looks very different compared to the Vibe magazine. I tried to add
something that would make my dps stand out and look really different compared
to others, which can catch the users attention.
First of all I added music notes around the image.
Throughout my research I didn’t see anything like this making it a unique
selling point. I think that due to this it definitively catches the viewer’s
attention, as it isn’t something that they’d usually see in a magazine.
I also included an enlarged quote that will stand out from
the rest of the article and image. Throughout the whole magazine I kept the
same colour scheme to make it continuous and not make it look odd. In this case
the gold to show quotes from the artist. However as you can see on the top left I used
the colours yellow, blue and red. This is because it’s a Colombian magazine and
these are the colours used in the flag. I think these 3 words stand out from
the rest of the page. First of all the
background is a kind of cream colour and having these 3 vibrant colours there
has a nice contrast. I got the idea to include the artists name due the Vibe
magazine having something similar to this but they only included the artist’s
initials.
Furthermore used Spanish within my article and headline
which is uncommon in other magazine, if the user doesn’t understand the Spanish
it could intrigue them to search it up and know what it means. Most magazines
today are written in one langue but I needed to include something so that my
double page spread looked different compared to others.
