DPS Photoshop drafts and finished

Draft 1

This was my first draft of my double page spread.
- I liked this design however the lighting on the image looked a bit odd compared to the background that i chose so it didn't look well together.
- In addition i made a mistake on the masthead 'Life A Strife' instead of 'Life's a Strife'
- I had feedback from my teacher and peers. Some said that they weren't very attracted to the headline, they thought that i could of used a different font to make is look better and more attractive.
- On the other hand I really liked the 'TeL' as it's in yellow, blue, red- the Colombian flag colours. Due to this the viewer will see this and know that this article is based on a Spanish genre.

Draft 2

This was my second attempt for my double page spread. When i took this image i knew it was going to look good from the start.
- First of all it was raining on the day and as a result it made the seat wet and gave it some designs that it doesn't originally have. This made it attractive in design as it isn't something you'll see on a normal day.
- I also thought that the image relates to the article i wrote as he's a new artists that's trying to get himself known and it talks about how music played a part in his life.
- I really liked how i put the quote in next to the image of my model and i think the quote can relate to the model's pose as he's looking down and sitting sideways.
- Plus I included the Artists name Tyler Leon but i included the world 'El', By the reader seeing this they will know that that the magazine is based on spanish music. Not only this but when you translate this into Spanish it would read Tyler the Lion which sounds pretty cool.
- To make my artist and the seat stand out from the background I used gaussian blur to blur the wall out so it looks as if the camera focused on the artist only, then i went over him with the sharpen, burn and dodge tool to add light and shade to parts of him to match the natural lighting in the image.
- However i felt like the image was a bit too plain in design and that there was a bit more that i could do to improve it and make it look more attractive.

 Draft 3

After a few ideas i came up with adding a few music notes. Since i'm creating a music magazine and the article talks about how music changed my artists life i decided it would be a nice feature to include, not only does it reflect the article but it also makes the design look attractive and eye catching as it's been edited and it's quite abstract.
However after receiving feedback from my teacher and peers they thought that there wasn't enough to tell the viewer that this is a Spanish article besides the artist's name so i should come up with something to tell the reader that this article is based on spanish music.
I Was also missing key features and made some mistakes like the logo, the name of the journalist and photographer, typos, the columns weren't the same size in width and the page number on the left wasn't in the corner of the page.

Final Edit

This was my final outcome.
- I moved the artists's name to the top left corner and coloured each word in the Colombian flag colours so the viewer will know that the article is based on spanish music.
- I moved the quote into the bottom right corner and included enlarger quote marks to make it stand out and the reader will know that this is quote from the artist.
- I also changed the masthead from 'Life's A Strife' to 'Una Locura' which is spanish for 'It's Crazy'. Since the masthead is in spanish the viewer will again know that the article is based on Spanish music.
- Finally I changed/added previous things I needed to add from the previous draft like the Journalist, photographers name, etc...
- I made my logo a crown with the letters 'BT' and 2 music notes engraved in white within the centre. I decided to use a crown as my foreground because the it can relate both genres of bachata since it shows royalty and reggaeton since it shows the difference of status and jewellery because when people think of crowns we think of the colour gold.  Under the crown i included the magazines masthead 'Bachaton' just incase people don't know what 'BT' stands for. I added the 2 music notes because if someone sees a music note they will get the impression that the magazine will be based on music because why would there be 2 music notes if the magazine is based on films? It wouldn't make no sense.

www: nice, experimental layout and image. very brave
ebi: the image is a little grainy. may need to play with the hue/contrast. too much space above models head as well.
